Swiss authorities have arrested several people and opened a criminal investigation after a 64-year-old American woman reportedly used a so-called “suicide pod” to end her life, according to local reports.
The death marks the first known instance in which the controversial invention, known as the “Sacro capsule,” has been used to end a life.
The woman died Monday afternoon in a forest in Merishausen, a Swiss town close to the German border, according to the newspaper Schaffhauser Nachrichten.
