"Rebelión" vecinal en Fuencaliente con pancartas contra la desaladora y a favor de reparar el canal LP-1

La Asociación Agua para La Palma informa en nota de prensa que “el rechazo vecinal a la planta de desalación de agua marina que proyecta el Ayuntamiento de Fuencaliente crece día a día y ya se manifiesta en forma de pancartas colocadas desde el pasado fin de semana en fachadas de viviendas con la consigna Desaladora no; sí canal LP-1”. 

“Una actitud, la estos vecinos, de manifestar públicamente su descontento”, que quiere “felicitar” la Asociación Agua para La Palma, entidad que recientemente organizó un debate público en este municipio sobre las alternativas a la desaladora pretendida por el alcalde, Gregorio Alonso, que “encarecería aún más el precio del agua”. 

“La asociación, así como expertos como el catedrático de Fisiología de la Universidad de La Laguna Antonio Lorenzo Fernández y el ingeniero Carlos Soler, han desmontado los argumentos del Ayuntamiento y el Consejo Insular de Aguas, y han puesto el foco en la raíz del problema: las graves pérdidas de agua en los canales públicos y el desaprovechamiento del acuífero insular por la mala gestión política, como se refleja en el abandono del Túnel de Trasvase, captación de titularidad pública, y la no instalación de tranques hidráulicos en las galerías (que permitirían regular la explotación del recurso a demanda)”, subraya. 

“Un mensaje que ha calado cada vez en más vecinos de Fuencaliente, quienes ya exigen con sus pancartas la reparación del canal LP-1 y mejorar la gestión del agua en una isla que almacena en su subsuelo cada año 4 veces más de la que consume”, añade. 

Agua para La Palma espera que “a esta protesta en Fuencaliente se unan más vecinos de este y otros municipios que se surten del canal LP1, para que se llenen de pancartas contra la desastrosa gestión de esta infraestructura pública”. 

“Hay que recordar que, según ha dicho sin sonrojarse el presidente del Cabildo, Sergio Rodríguez, se pierde más del 60% del agua que pasa por ese canal; y así lo reconocía también el anterior consejero insular de Aguas, Carlos Cabrera, a principios de este año; a lo que su sucesor en el cargo, Juan Ramón Felipe, ha añadido que el LP1 es un coladero; e incluso el expresidente de la Comunidad de Regantes de Fuencaliente declaró que ya en el año 2000 este acueducto tenía pérdidas del 34%, por lo que la situación ha empeorado”, afirma. 

Por ello, los integrantes de este colectivo se preguntan: “¿Qué pretenden nuestros políticos, que el canal pierda el 100% de agua para tener una excusa mayor para implantar desaladoras?”. 

De ahí que la Asociación Agua para La Palma se congratule de que “la sociedad abra los ojos contra el injustificable malgasto de una millonada en este proyecto y reclame que se entube y telemetrice el canal LP1. Una obra pública de tiempos anteriores a la democracia, financiada entonces por el Estado, y que no ha tenido el mantenimiento necesario”, resalta.

“Las pancartas demuestran que el pueblo no entiende el empeño del alcalde en defender a capa y espada la desaladora, cuyo proyecto encargó en 2020, lo guardó en la gaveta en 2021 y no lo sacó hasta que no ganó las elecciones en 2023; pero nunca ha reclamado el entubado del canal, lo que permitiría que, sin incrementar costes, llegara el agua suficiente por gravedad a su municipio desde el propio Túnel de Trasvase en Las Breñas”, afirma. 

La asociación advierte de que “la planta de desalación se llevaría casi en su totalidad durante muchos años las inversiones reales del Consejo Insular de Agua”, al tiempo que sostiene que proyectarla “supone reconocer, sin propósito de enmienda, el fracaso en la gestión política hidrológica llevada a cabo durante décadas”.

 “Todo esto lo callan nuestros gobernantes y el lobby del agua. Unos poderes fácticos que intentan engañar a la sociedad atribuyendo la falta de este recurso natural al cambio climático, con la intención de mantener a la gente sumisa a sus abusos, para lograr el objetivo de introducir la desalación en La Palma”, denuncia la asociación.

Por otra parte, añade, “este grupo de ciudadanos lamenta la pésima gestión del gobierno de Fuencaliente sobre las aguas termales de la Fuente Santa, que permanece cerrada a cal y canto, incluso para quien dedicó años a buscar el modo de encontrarla y que puso todo su empeño en que la obra se financiara, el ingeniero experto en hidráulica y energía Carlos Soler Liceras, además Hijo Adoptivo además de Fuencaliente”. 

“Los fuencalenteros”, observa la asociación, “comienzan a hartarse de las ocurrencias de su alcalde, quien ha sumido a Fuencaliente en una situación que hace desistir a quienes han pensado en invertir y vivir allí al ver que la voluntad de su regidor se escarrancha sobre la de sus vecinos como si de su rancho se tratara”.
