Rep. Cuellar Swears He’s Innocent After Report of Imminent Indictment
Reuters/Michael McCoyRep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) insisted in a statement Friday that he’s innocent of any wrongdoing—a declaration that came mere minutes after NBC News reported that he would be indicted by the DOJ on Friday. Cuellar, who’s represented South Texas in Congress for two decades, wrote in his statement that “everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people” and that what he did was “consistent with the actions of many of my colleagues and in the interest of the American people.”The imminent indictment may be related to a federal probe into Azerbaijan and a group of U.S. businessmen who have ties to the country. Federal agents raided Cuellar’s house and office in 2022 as part of that probe, but Cuellar tamped down the controversy by claiming he wasn’t the subject of the investigation but that he’d agreed to cooperate with authorities.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Nervous Hope Hicks Takes the Stand—and Won’t Even Glance at Trump
Carlos Barria/ReutersHope Hicks, Donald Trump’s first political PR guru and presumed holder of all his dirty secrets, testified at the former president’s New York criminal trial on Friday—and wouldn’t even throw a glance at her former boss during her first hour on the witness stand. From the moment she walked into the courtroom at 11:30 a.m., the atmosphere immediately changed. The 35-year-old publicist—who normally carries herself confidently and owns the room—slowly made her way into the courtroom through a side door that’s disguised as a wall panel and uneasily made her way past the red-velvet rope that separates the battle area from the public pews. She kept her head down, with her feathered blonde hair drooping over her eyes as she gripped a black purse in her left hand.Once she sat down, Hicks barely squeaked out an introduction.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Family Wants Deeper Probe Into ‘Suicide’ of South Carolina Preacher’s Wife
GoFundMeLoved ones of a pastor’s wife who was found dead in a North Carolina state park with a bullet wound to her head are not convinced she died by suicide, as her husband claims.Instead, they’re pressing authorities to probe Mica Miller’s death as something potentially more sinister—especially after her husband’s announcement of her death a day after her body was found did little to quell rumors about the tragedy. “This has to be at least looked into deeply,” Kenn Young, Mica Miller’s friend, told WPDE. “There’s got to be some accountability here, because yeah, a tragic life was lost, and it’s not just as simple as mental health issues.”Read more at The Daily Beast.
