DeSantis Aide Defends Questionable Podium Placement for Press Conference
Phil Sears/ReutersA spokesperson for Ron DeSantis was forced to issue a statement Sunday after Florida’s Democratic chairwoman posted footage alleging hurricane debris was deliberately being placed behind an area where the Florida governor was set to hold a press conference. DeSantis was visiting Treasure Island–a community that weathered both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton–when Nikki Fried posted footage of what appeared to be workers piling debris from the aftermath directly behind a podium where DeSantis was set to speak about hurricane relief efforts. “Caught on today’s livestream—adding debris behind podium before DeSantis presser,” Fried wrote. “Ron has no shame—he’s spent weeks accusing everyone else of politicizing this disaster while ordering workers to window dress his press conference.” A few hours later, as the footage began to gain momentum, DeSantis Communications Director Bryan Griffin responded to the allegations on X, claiming the area was “an actual work site,” and the workers were members of the Florida National Guard who were deployed to help clean up debris. “Debris was being added to the pile because that is an actual work site,” Griffin said. “Those are FLNG deployed by the governor to help locals clean up debris, and we were there to announce state initiatives to help it move even quicker. It’s chair of the @FlaDems who has no shame.” Read more at The Daily Beast.

John Oliver Blasts Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo: ‘Dumber Than You Think’
HBOJohn Oliver said that Republican claims of election fraud by non-citizens are creating the impression that there’s cause for concern, despite the fact that none of their claims have ever been backed up by actual evidence. And on this week’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Oliver singled out Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo for aiding and abetting Donald Trump’s lies.He reported on how Bartiromo delivered “this doozy” on air in August, citing an unnamed man in Texas who’d claimed he couldn’t get into the DMV in Weatherford because of a massive line of immigrants outside, who were being recruited to vote with signs in Spanish. In reality, none of that happened. There is no Texas DMV in Weatherford. Local police found no nearby DMV offices setting up tents or tables with signs and a local GOP official in Texas confirmed that there had only been two attempts by non-citizens to vote in that county in the past 15 years.Read more at The Daily Beast.

CNN Data Guru Warns Democrats: Trump Looks Great in These Key Metrics
CNNCNN Election forecaster Harry Enten had some bad news for Democrats on Sunday. The data guru joined the network’s Inside Politics program to predict that former President Donald Trump could win a “historic” portion of black and Hispanic voters in November—and pointed out that Republicans lead Democrats in party registration and registration for the first time in nearly 40 years, based on data from recent polling.“At this particular hour, if you believe the polling, Donald Trump’s going to put up the best performance with Black voters since Richard Nixon in 1960,” Enten said, referencing Nixon’s first campaign for the White House that he lost to John F. Kennedy.Read more at The Daily Beast.
