Trump Is Already Providing Clues to How He May Contest 2024 Election
Jeff Swensen/Getty ImagesDonald Trump is seemingly setting the stage to contest a potential loss in November by blustering about the election’s legitimacy and portraying the other party as a bunch of “cheaters” on the campaign trail.Ranting loudly and incoherently about stolen elections is not a new tactic for the former president—famously, he did it so much in 2020 that it triggered an attempted insurrection by his supporters. Nor has it been absent from the 2024 campaign trail, with Trump repeatedly refusing to commit to accepting the election result.“If we don’t win, you know, it depends,” he replied when prodded by Time in April. “It always depends on the fairness of the election.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Shocking ‘Industry’ Season 3 Finale: Does Anyone Survive?
Photo Illustration by Thomas Levinson/The Daily Beast/Getty/HBO(Warning: Spoilers ahead.)Considering how full-throttle Industry's third season has been, nothing should come as a surprise, but I don’t think anyone could foresee that none of the major players would be working for Pierpoint by the end of the finale. The 75-minute episode begins where we left off, with Eric (Ken Leung) as a crucial voice in saving the investment bank from insolvency and then convincing the rest of the disgruntled Pierpoint employees that ties to Egyptian state funds is a win. It is chilling when Eric convinces nearly an entire staff (most of whom haven’t been home since the big bash the night before) that they have everything they need in the office: “Your desk is your house! That’s right. So go home.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Broadway Review: ‘The Hills of California’ Gets Lost in Time—and Loses Us Too
Joan MarcusWhat a mischievous title The Hills of California is. If it summons up images of West Coast luxe—or, more specifically, Lauren, Heidi, and Spencer—you may be surprised to find Jez Butterworth’s latest flawed and baggy Broadway play (Broadhurst Theatre, booking through Dec. 22) is set in its past and present day in the Gothic-shadowed, run-down gloom of the Sea View Guest House in the north-west England resort of Blackpool. In the present day (1976) the infamous British heatwave of that year simmers outside, as unseen matriarch Veronica Webb dies in a room somewhere off a gloomy staircase. Her daughters—plain, dutiful Jill (Helena Wilson), free-spirited and sweet Ruby (Ophelia Lovibond), and serrated-sharp, embittered Gloria (Leanne Best)—await the arrival of prodigal daughter Joan (Laura Donnelly), who has long since flown the nest for a life of fame and mystery in America. You sense she will not be welcomed back entirely warmly. In the past, the 1950’s, guesthouse owner and not to be defied stage-mom Veronica (also Donnelly) is training her daughters for Andrews Sisters-style singing stardom, and we see the early germination of the later bitterness. A visiting Hollywood agent, Luther St. John (David Wilson Barnes) takes a particular, indecent shine to Young Joan (Lara McDonnell). Veronica’s power is no match for his—and, in one of the most arresting scenes of the play, we see her power taken from her in a matter of seconds; her final act is to agree to literally prostitute her daughter.Read more at The Daily Beast.
